We are urging all community members to please help stop the spread by:
- wearing an N95 mask, if available, or a surgical mask in all indoor public settings
- maintaining 2 metres of physical distance and wearing a face mask when this cannot be maintained
- considering your risk of exposure to COVID-19 and act accordingly. Consider how your risk may affect your family, friends, elders, the vulnerable, community members and others in general.

The State of Emergency for Neyaashiinigmiing has been extended until July 31, 2022.
When a State of Emergency was declared in Neyaashiinigmiing when COVID-19 began, an Emergency Response Team comprised of Senior Staff in Nawash was immediately instituted to respond to and create processes for the community. They continue to meet on a weekly basis. This type of emergency also provides access to funding in order to carry out measures to keep our community safe

There continues to be an active* COVID-19 outbreak in Neyaashiinigmiing. *An active outbreak will be considered ended when a period of 14 days has elapsed where there are no new or active cases confirmed among Neyaashiinigmiing residents or staff.

Public Health Grey Bruce let us know there were 3 overdoses in Grey Bruce last week – one fatal in Saugeen Shores and two non-fatal in Grey County.
For anyone that is using drugs, please have naloxone on hand and always use with a sober friend who can administer naloxone and call 911 in case of an overdose.
Naloxone is available at pharmacies and at the Grey Bruce Health Unit Mon-Fri, 8:30 am to 4 pm, no appointment needed.

Dear Neyaashiinigmiing Residents,
In today’s newsletter, we informed the community about the following information.
The Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry has provided Nawash with results of a recent study which found the virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) in 17 white-tailed deer from southwestern Ontario.
There has been a probable case of transmission of the virus from a deer to a human.
The Ministry is recommending to anyone handling wildlife to take precautions and follow health and safety recommendations when handling and processing wildlife.

As communicated previously, one poultry flock in Neyaashiinigmiing tested positive in early April 2022 for Avian Influenza (AI) by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). AI is also known as H5N1 and the bird flu. Biosecurity protocols are still in place around the premises where the infected poultry flock was located.
Avian Influenza: a contagious viral infection that can affect several species of food producing birds as well as pet birds and wild birds. The risk to humans is very low.
When should I suspect Avian Influenza in my birds?
- sudden death - lack of energy, movement or appetite
- decreased egg production - swelling around the head, neck and eyes
- coughing, gasping for air or sneezing - nervous signs, tremors or lack of coordination
- diarrhea
