Nawash Food Bank
The Food Bank is located at the Community Centre building and is a volunteer based operation. The Food Bank provides food/staples/basics to families and persons of the Chippewas of Nawash community. The volunteer team fills requests for emergency foods based on family size also. This program is a member of the Ontario Food Bank Association and organizes the Christmas Food Hamper drive for families in the greater needs holiday season.
To help us keep our distance during the pandemic crisis, the Food Bank program has expanded its operations with more days and more stock. The Food Bank provides a healthy selection of foodstuffs, including meat, dairy, grains, canned goods, fresh produce and even pet food. They can even include some common personal hygiene products. While the Food Bank has always been open to all residents, the Chief and Council urge every household to take advantage of the Food Bank at this time and avoid unnecessary trips out of the community to the supermarket.
We are all trying our best to maintain social distance during the pandemic, so the Food Bank would prefer residents take advantage of our delivery service rather than lining up at the Community Centre. Call the Maadookii or Daycare to place your order, and Food Bank volunteers will bring your food right to your door!
While members are welcome to visit the Food Bank during operating hours, for safety's sake we must insist that proper social distance protocol is followed. Only one patron will be allowed in the facility at a time. If you are waiting outside, observe the 2 meter rule and keep your distance from other waiting patrons.
