Overdose Loss Memorial

As our community struggles with the ongoing and devastating effects of opioid abuse, we must not forget those victims who have passed.

On Friday, April 30, 2021, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, we will be holding a memorial at the Government Dock.

We want to remember our family, friends and community members who have been lost to an overdose, and show our support for the loved ones they have left behind.

Flowers will be provided to drop into the water, as well as tobacco for prayers, and a message board for sharing memories. We will also have light refreshments for take-away.

This is a drop-in event. COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect. Please wear a mask and keep your distance from other attendees you don’t live with.

Wellness Packages Available to Residents

It’s been just over a year since a State of Emergency was declared in Neyaashiinigmiing, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The chronic closures, lack of social activities, and constant vigilance has taken a toll on the community as a whole and all of us as individuals. Getting vaccinated is the first important step to ending the pandemic and protecting our physical health, but we have to be mindful of our mental and emotional wellness too. To help us stay strong, the Nawash Health Centre’s Harm Reduction and Outreach program has fun and free health and wellness packages for all Neyaashiinigmiing residents.

These holistic Wellness packages are catered to your individuals needs, and can include fun activities, stress relief items, art and creativity supplies, selfcare supplies, hobby materials, and even cultural items (i.e. smudges). Children attending Kikendaasogamig Elementary will complete a package form at school and receive their wellness kits there. Adults in the community are asked to call Suzy Jones, Harm Reduction and Outreach Worker, to register and help create their own customized packages.

We look forward to sharing this fun program with all Neyaashiinigmiing residents, of all ages!
