2021 Habitat for Humanity Build Families Selected

The Kaikaiknong subdivision is continuing to expand with new builds announced for four CNUFN families. Chief Greg Nadjiwon and Executive Director Greg Fryer of Habitat for Humanity broke ground for the new homes and congratulated the happy home recipients. Watch the groundbreaking ceremony on YouTube.

The 2021 build is getting off to a late start because of pandemic-caused delays. The families are rolling up their sleeves to start investing their own labour, but we will need even more volunteers to help make the dream of a new house a reality for these parents and kids. Visit https://habitatgreybruce.ca/ to learn more about how you can volunteer or donate to the builds.

The 2021 Habitat for Humanity families are:

  • Brett Elliot and Rachel Robichaud, and their two children
  • Wesley Keeshig and Brittany Henderson, and their three children
  • Alicia Nadjiwon, and her two children
  • Cecily Pedoniquotte-Keesh, and her two children

Congratulations to all the families!

Volunteers Requested for Kaikaiknong Habitat for Humanity Build

Our 2020 Kaikaiknong Habitat for Humanity build needs volunteers! This year, two families will move into their new homes in the Kaikaiknong development. We can help get them in their homes faster by joining together as a community.

Volunteers are literally the backbone of a Habitat project. While they’re always needed, July 27-28, 2020, will be special Community Build Days, with even more reason to come out to lend a hand. Every volunteer on the Community Build Days will be entered into daily draw prizes. There will additional incentives for the new build Family Members, previous Habitat Home recipients, Band Staff and Council, and any community members that work for the 2 full days.

Volunteers will be loaned all mandatory construction safety gear, and personal protection equipment, including gloves, work boots, hardhats, masks and hand sanitizer. Snacks, drinks and lunch will also be be provided, prepared by Cozy Cats Catering.

The work day starts at 8:00 AM with mandatory safety instruction, and ends at 5:00 PM with the daily draws. You must be present to win!

Register to join the team on Community Build Days! Contact @nawashFWBP on Facebook Messenger, or call 519-534-4445 and leave your name and contact number.

Partner Families Announced for New Home Build in Kaikaiknong

Chief Greg Nadjiwon, Housing Manager Shane Chegahno, and Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce Executive Director Greg Fryer announced the partner families selected for this year’s build of two new houses in the Kaikaiknong development.

The happy families of  Tyanna Jones and Devon Wilhelm, and Alberta Elliott and Kyle Nadjiwon are looking forward to rolling up their sleeves and getting to work on their new homes.

Habitat for Humanity builds rely on the labour of the partner families and other volunteers. New COVID-19 limitations on workplaces means that these new builds can only use volunteers who are residents of Neyaashiinigmiing. If you’re a resident and have a few hours to lend a hand, register with Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce and pitch in!
