Saugeen Ojibway Commercial Fisheries Annual Harvest Reports

The Nawash Fisheries Assessment Program prepares annual reports of the catch totals of Saugeen Ojibway Nation commercial fishers, available below. Catch is measured in round pounds (rlb), which means complete whole fish that have not been gutted, and is the aggregate of all SON commercial fishing trips from January to December, inclusive.

SON fishers are the only licensed commercial operators in our territory. There are three fishing Zones in the SON's traditional territory, each with a Total Allowable Catch (TAC), negotiated between SON and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as per the Substantive commercial fishing agreement. The TAC is informed by Indigenous knowledge, Western science science and data collected by our Fisheries Assessment Program and MNRF, and balances our right to fish commercially with the sustainability of the fishery for generations to come.
