Mental Health and Addictions Services are coming to the Nawash Health Centre

Starting December 2, 2020, a Mental Health and Addictions Registered Practical Nurse from Grey Bruce Health Services will be available every Wednesday at the Nawash Health Centre.

The Nawash Health Centre, with the MHA RPN, is pleased to offer the following services to Neyaashiinigmiing residents:

  • Individual and family counselling
  • Care coordination for mental health and addiction services
  • Access to Rapid Access Addiction Medicine clinics
  • Outpatient services for addiction treatment

When: Wednesdays, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Community Health Offers Free Online Yoga Class

In a stressful time, we could all use some assistance staying grounded and healthy, physically and emotionally. Yoga practice can help with both.

The Health Centre has arranged for a free online and private yoga class for Chippewas of Nawash Members. All you need is an internet connection and a device that can connect to a Zoom teleconference.

Flu Season is Coming – Get Your Shot!

Flu Season is just about upon us. The Health Centre is holding an Influenza (Flu) Clinic on Tuesday, October 20, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Getting your seasonal flu shot can help protect you and the people around you from the potentially serious effects of the flu.

Emergency Kits for Neyaashiinigmiing Households

The Chippewas of Nawash Administration, in partnership with the Nawash Family Well-Being Program and the Nawash Health Centre, will be delivering Household Emergency Kits to on-reserve households in the coming week.

One kit, containing emergency supplies for 72 hours, will be supplied to each Neyaashiinigmiing household. The kit includes emergency food and water rations, thermal blankets, a first aid kit, a hand-powered flashlight, a radio, and other supplies that could be critical in an emergency.

Crews will be distributing the kits on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Wednesday, October 7, 2020, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Please arrange for someone to be home to receive the kit during one of the delivery periods.

Updated Forms for Guests to Neyaashiinigmiing

By resolution of the Council, as of October 3, 2020, Resident and Non-Resident Band Members may bring guests to visit in Neyaashiinigmiing without requiring an access letter.

Visitor Information Forms must be completed by all guests prior to entry. Guests may bring completed forms with them to the community entrance, or complete forms at the monitoring station when entering.

All guests must be sponsored by a Band Member at the time of entry. Guests must follow existing COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.

The information being collected is to assist with contact tracing in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in Neyaashiinigmiing, and will not be used for any other purpose. All information collected will be destroyed after six months.

Employment Opportunity: Health Services Manager

The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation is seeking a qualified Health Services Manager. The Health Services Manager works with the First Nation Administrator to oversee agreements, plan the annual budgets for the various health programs, and manages monthly and annual budgets. The Health Service Manager oversees Health staff in the provision of health services, identifies community health issues, addresses health issues and provides solutions, develops health programs and looks for outside sources of additional funding.
