Employment Experience and Ontario Works Seeking Expressions of Interest in Employment Subsidies

We have exciting news for Neyaashiinigmiing employers. Employment Experience, in partnership with Ontario Works, is seeking expressions of interest from employers in employee wage subsidies for on the job training. Wage subsidies could help your business grow, train new employees in your sector, and put people back to work! Note that this program is still in the proposal stage and funding is not guaranteed.

Eligibility Requirements

Qualifying Employers must be a Band Program, Private Business or an organization in Neyaashiinigmiing.

The subsidized position cannot be used to replace or displace an existing paid position in the Employer’s organization, but may provide, for a fixed-period, appointments as an interim employee, trainee, assistant, term hire, intern or similar role.

The position must be full-time employment (minimum 30 hours per week) for a 3, 6, or 12 months contract.

The position must have similar working conditions and performance expectations as other employees, in compliance with employment standards and health and safety requirements. The Participant should be treated as a regular employee.

Under this program, the Employer pays wages to the Participant trainee at minimum wage or higher, in addition to making contributions for Workers Safety and Insurance Board, Employment Insurance, and Canada Pension Plan as may be applicable. The Employer is assisted by receiving funds from Employment Experience, in the amount of the Participant’s Ontario Works benefits.

Participants may need training in order to qualify for employment, which will be supported by Ontario Works and the employer.

How to Apply

Employers need to create a job description for the position they are interested in providing, and submit it to Amy Ingram (Nadjiwon-Tobey) at Nawash Social Services. Social Services will bundle all job descriptions in a funding proposal to Ontario Works for consideration.

Funding is limited and not all applications will be approved. While all job descriptions will be submitted, ISC will make the final decisions on what positions will be approved for wage subsidies. Social Services will advise Employers of the approval status of their applications.

The deadline for applications is February 28, 2021.

If you have any questions about this program, or would like to apply as an Employer, please contact Amy Ingram (Nadjiwon-Tobey) at Social Services.
