Video: Chief Greg Nadjiwon Addresses the Community

The Chief has prepared a video statement for members as we respond to a COVID-19 case in Neyaashiinigmiing.

While the Health Centre and Grey Bruce Public Health manage the small outbreak, there is no immediate cause for alarm. The community remains safe. Residents are reminded to follow all pandemic protocols as rigorously as always.

Everybody is also asked to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible, as the surest and easiest way to protect our families, relations, friends and neighbours.

COVID-19 Case Identified in Neyaashiinigmiing

Grey Bruce Public Health has confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 in Neyaashiinigmiing. The Health Centre with the assistance of Public Health will be undertaking all contact tracing for this case, and will notify affected individuals. There is no need for additional testing if you are not identified as a potential contact.

The Chief and Council ask that the community remain calm and continue to observe all COVID-19 health and safety guidelines with renewed diligence. Please also respect the privacy of all community members. Refrain from discussing the personal details of any person’s health status, including any identifying information.

Any case of COVID-19 is serious, but there is no cause for alarm. By adhering to our well-known safety protocols we can and will contain the COVID-19 outbreak in the community.

A COVID-19 vaccination offers nearly 100% protection against serious illness caused by the virus and significantly reduces the chance of infection and transmission. All members and residents are strongly advised to receive the vaccination at the earliest opportunity.  We are offering a vaccination clinic on Saturday, July 17. Please call the Health Centre at 519-534-0373 to schedule your vaccination.

Please stay calm and remember to:

  • Wear a mask outside your home
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Watch your distance and remain at least 2 meters from anybody who does not live with you

We will share more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your strength and patience at this time.

2021 Habitat for Humanity Build Families Selected

The Kaikaiknong subdivision is continuing to expand with new builds announced for four CNUFN families. Chief Greg Nadjiwon and Executive Director Greg Fryer of Habitat for Humanity broke ground for the new homes and congratulated the happy home recipients. Watch the groundbreaking ceremony on YouTube.

The 2021 build is getting off to a late start because of pandemic-caused delays. The families are rolling up their sleeves to start investing their own labour, but we will need even more volunteers to help make the dream of a new house a reality for these parents and kids. Visit https://habitatgreybruce.ca/ to learn more about how you can volunteer or donate to the builds.

The 2021 Habitat for Humanity families are:

  • Brett Elliot and Rachel Robichaud, and their two children
  • Wesley Keeshig and Brittany Henderson, and their three children
  • Alicia Nadjiwon, and her two children
  • Cecily Pedoniquotte-Keesh, and her two children

Congratulations to all the families!

The ceremony was covered live by Rogers TV. You can view the recording of the ceremony on the Rogers TV website.

Wharf Upgrades to Begin June 28

On June 28, East Elgin Forming Limited will begin additional construction on the new wharf. The project will replace the light poles on the dock and add bumper pads to protect the dock and boats from impacts when boats are moored.

The wharf area will be closed to the public during the construction, which will involve cranes and other heavy machinery. Residents are urged to exercise caution when in the area and remain safely back from construction equipment.

The wharf is an important part of our community infrastructure, particularly during the warm summer months. Updates on the construction progress, including the estimated completion date, will be posted regularly.
