John Borrows Appointed Officer of the Order of Canada

We are very proud to share that Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation member John Borrows has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. The Order of Canada is the nation’s highest civilian honour and recognizes the historic contributions of outstanding Canadians to the nation’s progress, culture and knowledge.

John is a noted lawyer and academic, who has studied and taught law around the world. He currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Law at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. His research and writing on Indigenous legal systems has helped shape and advance the relationships between Indigenous peoples and governments in Canada, and around the world.

His appointment to the Order of Canada is well-deserved recognition for a lifetime of achievement!
