Small Business Loan and Grant Applications Open

UPDATE: The deadline for Small Business Loan and Grant applications has been extended to Friday, January 8th, at 4:00 PM. Applications should be submitted to Band Office Reception.

Economic development is vital to the future of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. If you’re a member, we want to help you develop your great business concept,  or grow your existing business. Applications to the Chippewas of Nawash Small Business Loan and Grant (SBLG) Program are now being accepted.

The SBLG Program offers financial assistance to eligible Chippewas of Nawash members living in Ontario, for developing a business plan, starting a new business, or expanding an existing business. The program’s objectives are to develop the business skills of members and promote opportunities for economic development for the First Nation.

Successful applicants can receive up to $8000 in grants for various business activities and up to $8000 in a loan, depending on the strength of their application and their financial situation. The Program favours projects that demonstrate leadership in areas including real economic development in the community, Indigenous employment, culturally appropriate business practices, and financial sustainability. Applications are considered by the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Chief and Council, who give final approval of all grants and loans under the Program.

Interested members are encouraged to read the SBLG Program Policy guidebook, which offers detailed guidance on eligibility criteria and preparing your application. A paper copy of the Policy can be picked up at the Band Office.

The SBLG Application Form is also available online, or from the Band Office.
